Uses of Human Cell Therapy

Human cell therapy has found several uses over a period of time and is today a major tool in the hand of medical researchers. Studies of human embryonic stem cells have gone forward and yielded enough information about the complex events that occur during human development.

A primary goal of this work is to identify how undifferentiated stem cells become the differentiated cells that form the tissues and organs. Doctors and researchers have revealed that some of the most serious medical conditions, such as cancer and birth defects, are a result of abnormal cell division and differentiation. It has been found that human stem cells could be effectively put to use to test new drugs. This constitutes to be use of human stem cell. For example, new medications could be tested for safety on differentiated cells generated from human pluripotent cell lines. The availability of pluripotent stem cells would go on and allow drug testing in a wider range of cell types.

Uses of Human Cell Therapy

This calls for scientists to be a little more observant and cautious and ensure that same cell changes occur in all kinds of stem cells under observation. Perhaps the most important potential application of human stem cells leading towards effective cell therapy is its ability towards generation of cells and tissues. This could be used for cell-based therapies. With stem cell therapy it may become possible to generate healthy heart muscle cells in the laboratory and then transplant those cells into patients with chronic heart disease. Preliminary research in mice and other animals indicates that bone marrow cells when transplanted into a damaged heart can go on and have beneficial effects and therefore constitute as a use of human cell therapy.

Today, as a use of human cell therapy, the use of donated organs and tissues is put to use to replace ailing or destroyed tissue. Stem cells, which owing to their property can be used towards directing to differentiate into specific cell types.  It can now offer the possibility of a renewable source of replacement cells and tissues. This could treat diseases including Alzheimer’s diseases, spinal cord injury, stroke, burns, osteoarthritis, heart disease, diabetes, and rheumatoid arthritis.
