The buzz around stem cells has not been there for no reason. It is due to their immense potential and use in the medical world that stem cells have been the center of attraction. The use and benefits of stem cells for humans is tremendous. Let us start this discussion from the basic scratch. So what exactly are stem cells and what are the advantages associated with stem therapy for humans? Stem cells are undifferentiated cells which have the capability of turning into any kind of cell or tissue in the human body. There are two kinds of stem cells: Adult stem cells and embryonic stem cells.
Uses of Stem Cells For Humans
As the name suggests adult stem cells are derived from adults while embryonic stem cells are derived from an embryo. The basic difference between the two is that embryonic stem cells can differentiate into a large number of subsequent tissues while in the case of adult stem cells this further differentiation is limited to a few tissues only. Stem therapy for humans is such a vast field with so many applications that there is no end to the uses that it be put towards.
This has made this topic very controversial too. The various research and tests going towards stem cells for humans need a large number of stem cells. In the case of embryonic stem cells the stem cells need to be extracted from embryo’s and this leads to the fact that human embryo’s are destroyed in the act. The other controversy which has marred the scope of stem research towards stem cells for humans is related to cloning. There has been an under laying fear of using stem cells towards carrying out human cloning which might trigger an unaccounted fall back.
The numerous benefits that stem cells causes is capable of relieving us of several diseases and ailments. In order to harness maximum benefit, it is important to channelize the study of these stem cells towards human betterment and prosperity. There is promising future in regard for use of stem cells for humans where study is now going on to use these stem cells to cure a wide range of diseases.
