Cerebral Palsy, loosely translated as brain paralysis is a condition which when effects the human brain leads to disorders affecting body movement, balance, and posture. Any harm to either one or several parts of the brain which are responsible towards controlling muscle tone and motor activity results in cerebral palsy.

This condition generally affects infants and small children usually before or after birth, who then, start showing the characteristics of this disease. The most common trait which is common with all patients suffering from cerebral palsy is the difficulty associated with controlling and coordinating muscle movements.

There are generally three kinds of cerebral palsy:

spastic cerebral palsy — it results in stiffness and difficulty in movement.
ataxic cerebral palsy — causes a disoriented sense of balance
athetoid cerebral palsy — leads to involuntary and uncontrolled movements

Cerebral Palsy Treatment:
When considering the options towards the treatment of cerebral palsy it is worth mentioning that there is as such no cure towards this condition. However with the help and assistance of therapies the disabilities associated with cerebral palsy can be reduced.

Different kinds of therapy targeted towards cerebral palsy treatment can be tried in order to allow the patient maximum chance towards his growth and development. As soon as CP is diagnosed, a child as a part of his treatment can begin to undergo therapy sessions to help him improve his  movement, learning, speech, hearing, and other social and emotional development activities.

It is also seen that many patients suffering from cerebral palsy also suffer from a curved spine. This leads to dislocated hips and scoliosis. Effective surgery can help take care of these conditions.

When planning a cerebral palsy treatment program it is necessary that the parents and the child’s care team at the hospital work together to choose only those treatments that offer some benefit to the child.
